On Thursday, September 28th, 2017 at 2:00 PM CT, a press conference, covering the passing of the law, was held in the Blue Room of the Thompson Center.

Nearly 850,000+ temp workers employed in Illinois factories, hotels, and warehouses have endured miserable working conditions such as “perma-temping,” no safety training, race and gender discrimination, and many more injustices. Rep. Ammons and Senator Martinez were triumphant in moving The Responsible Jobs Creation Act (HB690) into law for safer and dignified working conditions in a largely unregulated industry.

First introduced on January 25th, 2017, workers, allies and Rep. Ammons have worked vigorously for months to bring the hazardous working conditions in the temp industry to the forefront of public conversation. The law goes into effect on January 1, 2018.

The Responsible Jobs Creation Act (HB690) will fill the critical enforcement loopholes that corporations exploit at Illinois’ expense, provide better protection for temps from abuse, put an end to the use of “perma-temping” and ensure the return of good jobs and healthy economic growth to Illinois.
