Meet our Staff

Andrea Porter - Chief of Staff

I was born and raised in Chicago. I faced adversity early as I lost both parents to gun violence and drug addiction. Adopted by my paternal grandmother, Gloria Porter, at two years old, I thrived academically, graduating from Simeon Career Academy with a cosmetology major at 18. I entered the workforce at my local park district, discovering a passion for municipal government and community organizing, with a focus on child care.

After relocating to Champaign-Urbana in 2008, I held retail and healthcare management roles. 2018, I became a legislative aide for State Representative Carol Ammons' district office. My dedication to politics, public policy, and constituent concerns led me to become Chief of Staff. In this role, I oversee the district office, manage the internship program, schedule and budget, and lead the Constituent Services department.

My commitment extends beyond the 103rd district; I served as an Illinois Ambassador for AALSCC, securing an Executive position as Secretary in 2020. Appointed Vice Chair of NBLSLC in March 2023, I won re-election in Nashville, Tennessee, during NBCSL's conference. I also contribute as a local Advisory Council Board member for loss prevention dollars appointed by the Department of Human Services. I also work hard and strive for equity in non-profit organizations and churches.
