With the threat of nuclear warning growing, now more than ever it is critical we bring to the table the voices of those directly impacted by war and organize ourselves to advocate for peaceful solutions.

Join Representative Carol Ammons and a panel of experts discussing topics ranging from historical overview of United States involvement in global conflict, current international relations between the United States and key countries, experiences of military personnel who have served on the ground during wartime, and hear the experiences of those who have been forced to relocate because of war.

The panel is the kickoff event to starting the Illinois Chapter of Women's Action for New Directions (WAND). WAND empowers women to be agents of change to reduce violence and militarism, support nuclear disarmament, and redirect excessive Pentagon spending to unmet human and environmental needs.

Champaign-Urbana community members are invited to have coffee with State Representative Carol Ammons. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with the Representative and talk about what you would like to discuss. There is not a set topic of discussion for this event. This month's Coffee with Carol will take place on Friday, Jan. 26 from 7:30am to 9:00am at the Panera Bread located at 1765 W Kirby Ave. in Champaign.

Crosscheck

Last week, at the behest of the wonderful people over at Indivisible Chicago, I was able to address the Illinois State Board of Elections on a topic that is very concerning to me- and should be of concern to all Illinois voters.

Crosscheck is the federal registry of voter information- including the last four digits of social security numbers and other private information, such as criminal records- that currently 27 states are participating in. Illinois, unfortunately, is one of them. Although the program was started with good intentions, it has now turned into yet another way for this administration to disenfranchise legal voters- especially those from minority communities. You can watch me address the IL SBE to learn how by clicking here
